No endorsement

The race

Fremont Union High School District (Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and parts of San Jose, Los Altos, and Saratoga) now elects its board by trustee area, completing its transition in 2026. Three seats are on the November 3, 2026 ballot, per the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters' Final Qualified List:

The candidates

### Area 1 — appointed in lieu of election

Stanley Kou — No campaign record, platform, or adverse finding was located for Kou in this pass; he takes the seat without a vote because no opponent filed. His file is a one-line record gap, stated plainly rather than padded.

### Area 3

Rosa Kim (incumbent) — Record (in her own words, Sunnyvale Democratic Club candidate questionnaire, 2026): Kim answered the club's written questionnaire in detail. On the achievement gap she supports "targeted, data-driven investments using disaggregated outcome data to direct resources to school sites and student groups with the greatest gaps, with regular public reporting," and she cites the board's approval of a three-year On Track Collaboration with Sunnyvale School District (through California Education Partners) covering 8th-to-9th-grade math transition, A–G placement, and "equitable grading." Asked how she would protect teachers from harassment by outside groups, she answered that teachers should be able to teach "legally mandated, age-appropriate curriculum on difficult topics" without fear of intimidation. Democrats for Public Education also lists Kim as its endorsed candidate in Area 3. Credit: A detailed, written, on-the-record platform — the fullest in this district's races — and incumbent experience. Dirt: None located; the con is programmatic (below).

Jason Lin (challenger) — Credit: Lin is endorsed by Americans4Hindus (A4H), which presented him its endorsement and a campaign contribution at its October 13, 2026 endorsement meeting in Fremont, per India Post's coverage. Dirt: None located. Gap: No campaign site, questionnaire response, or stated position on curriculum, grading policy, parental rights, or district finances was located for Lin in this pass. Unproven; record insufficient (documented below).

### Area 4

Naomi Nakano-Matsumoto (incumbent) — Record: Nakano-Matsumoto is a long-serving trustee (recognized as "Woman of the Year" by then-State Senator Joe Simitian in 2009 and by Homestead High's PTSA in 2018, per the Lynbrook High student paper's board profile) who, in the district's own account of its trustee-area transition, framed the move as "more of a moral decision and we wanted to do the right thing." Credit: Deep community service record and board continuity. Dirt: None located. Gap: No 2026 platform document was located for her re-election.

Ilanit Eliaz (challenger) — Record: The one substantive public assessment of Eliaz located in this pass is a Sunnyvale voter's published November 2026 slate, which backs her specifically because "Ilanit's specific focus on diversity and equity extends farther on queer kids, immigrant kids, and special needs kids" than the incumbent's (Medium, Aaron Soffer's Sunnyvale slate) — a supporter's characterization, labeled as such, not the candidate's own platform. Credit: She is challenging a long-tenured incumbent, and her supporters credit her with an inclusion focus. Dirt: None located. Gap: No campaign site or own-words platform was located.

Pros and cons

Record gaps

Searches run for every candidate (October 25, 2026): Registrar's Final Qualified List (roster, areas, appointed-in-lieu status); the Sunnyvale Democratic Club's FUHSD 2026 candidate-questionnaire file (Kim's responses, in full); Democrats for Public Education's endorsement list (Kim); India Post's Americans4Hindus endorsement coverage (Lin); the published Sunnyvale voter slate discussing Area 4 (Eliaz, Nakano-Matsumoto); Lynbrook and Fremont High student-paper board coverage; GoodParty.org pages; candidate-name web searches for campaign sites and news. Lin and Kou are the earned gaps: a challenger with an endorsement but no platform, and an appointee with neither.

OUR CALL

Area 3 — no endorsement (insufficient record). Kim's record is fully documented and is the equity-program model this page does not endorse. Lin might be anything — that is the problem. One community endorsement and no published position is not a sourced basis to endorse, and this page does not guess.

Area 4 — no endorsement. Both candidates' documented profiles sit inside the equity framework (the incumbent by service record, the challenger by her supporters' own description). No candidate in Area 4 documented alignment with parental rights, academic basics, or fiscal restraint.

Area 1 — no call. Kou was appointed in lieu of election; there is no contest to decide.
