LiberalMind endorses Joe Strada — as unproven, and on watch
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and early voting is underway in Florida. This is the whole race — the records, the claims against each candidate, and what the sources actually show. Read the research, and decide which flaw you can live with.
The setup
Florida's 11th District — The Villages and the western Orlando suburbs — is open because Rep. Daniel Webster (R), first elected in 2010, is not seeking re-election. The seat is contested on Florida's new 2026 lines (map HB 1-D, passed April 29, signed May 4; a judge ruled May 26 that the map stays for 2026): PVI R+7, Inside Elections rates it Solid Republican, and Donald Trump would have won the redrawn district by 16 points.
The Republican primary supplied the drama and the fact that defines the general election: Webster endorsed former state Sen. Carey Baker — and the voters chose Joe Strada anyway. Strada, an HVAC company owner, outraised the whole GOP field with $5.2 million as of July 29, and on primary night he and Baker were separated by just 393 votes with 99% counted (Inside Elections); the general-election rosters confirm Strada as the nominee, and Florida Right to Life's general-election list names him as well. The Democratic nominee is James Pericola, and Ralph Groves is on the ballot as the Libertarian.
Joe Strada (Republican)
The record: Strada owns an HVAC company. He has never held elected office. What he has done is win the Republican nomination for an open congressional seat against the outgoing incumbent's chosen successor, while out-raising the entire field — a campaign accomplishment that is also the limit of the record.
Pros: The conservative direction; a self-made businessman's biography in a district of homeowners who employ people like him; a primary won against the establishment's pick, which means Republican voters examined the alternative the incumbent preferred and chose otherwise.
Cons: No votes, no office, no budget history in public service. The 393-vote margin at 99% counted is a reminder of how close the other outcome was. Every position is a campaign representation, and this publication does not score representations as a record.
The flaw, plainly: Strada is unproven — a watch-closely posture, never a demerit. The endorsement below is of a direction and a primary verdict, not of a record, because there is not one yet.
James Pericola (Democratic)
The record: Pericola is an attorney and lobbyist (Inside Elections). No elected office was located, and no documented break with his party toward our values.
Pros: Professional standing in law and advocacy — a man who knows how legislation moves, from the outside of the room where it is written.
Cons: A lobbyist's knowledge of the building is not a record in office, and he carries his party's program into a district Trump carried by 16 on these lines.
The flaw, plainly: Pericola's flaw is the caucus, with a résumé that describes influence rather than service.
Ralph Groves (Libertarian)
Groves is the Libertarian nominee. No further record was located. A ballot presence, printed as such.
OUR CALL
LiberalMind endorses Joe Strada — as unproven, and on watch.
An open Republican seat; a Republican nominee who beat the incumbent's endorsed successor in the primary; a Democratic nominee carrying the opposing program with no exception case. The doctrine endorses the aligned candidate and watches the unproven one — Strada is both, and the article has priced his empty file at its full size.
