Election Series · U.S. House · Indiana's 9th District

A Third Term Bid, a Four-Way Winner Opposite: Indiana's 9th District, Claim by Claim Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and voting is underway in Indiana. This is the whole race — the records, the claims, and what the sources actually show. Read the research, and decide which flaw you can live with. ## The setup The district covers south-central and southeastern Indiana, from the south suburbs of Indianapolis to the Indiana side of the Louisville metro, including Bloomington and New Albany. Cook Political Report rates it Safe R (Feb. 6, 2025); Inside Elections says Safe R, Sabato Safe R, Decision Desk HQ Safe R, and Silver Bulletin Solid R. Indiana's congressional map is unchanged for 2026 — a mid-decade redraw passed the Indiana House on December 5, 2025, but failed in the Indiana Senate on December 11, 2025 — so the 2024 percentages below are on the same lines as this election. All rosters here rest on compilation sourcing, not a direct read of the Indiana Election Division's certified list, which is still owed before print. The incumbent is Republican Erin Houchin, in the House since 2023 and running for re-election — there are no open seats in this set. Houchin was re-elected in 2024 with 64.5%. On the ballot, per the compilation's tables, are Houchin, Democrat Brad Meyer, Libertarian Tonya Hudson — a convention nominee, a real estate broker from Mitchell and former vice-chair of the Libertarian Party of Indiana, whose platform per the Capital Chronicle is to abolish the IRS in favor of a sales-tax-based system, balance the federal budget, and reduce regulatory burdens; she is mentioned briefly here, with her printed-ballot confirmation still resting on the Election Division pull — and independent Floyd Taylor, a cybersecurity professional who appears in the compilation's general-election results table as an Independent. Taylor's ballot qualification is flagged plainly: Indiana independents qualify by petition, and his presence in that results table is the only evidence of qualification located in this file — the most check-worthy roster item in this state. ## Erin Houchin (Republican) The record: Former Indiana state senator from Salem, seeking a third House term (Indiana Capital Chronicle, Oct. 9, 2026). She ran unopposed in the Republican primary (51,165 votes, 100%). Trump-endorsed; AIPAC, Maggie's List, and (post-primary) U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorsed. Her campaign platform, per the Capital Chronicle, emphasizes border security, support for Israel, reduced federal spending, abortion restrictions, and parental involvement in education. FEC (June 30, 2026): raised $1,856,572. Pros: A two-term in-tent incumbent with prior state-senate service, an unopposed primary, and a platform stated in the sourced survey in terms squarely inside our values — border security, lower federal spending, and parental involvement. Cons: No proven in-service flaw was located in this file, and no vote-by-vote audit was performed in this pass. The endorsement rests on the verified file, and we say so. The flaw, plainly: On this file, no flaw is proven. The limit named is the research file's thinness on votes, not a failure of the incumbent's. ## Brad Meyer (Democratic) The record: Bloomington electronics engineer; retired civil engineer per the compilation's primary listing, with a career including manufacturing and civilian engineering work for the U.S. Navy (Capital Chronicle). He won a four-way Democratic primary with 37.9% (12,788 votes) over Dr. Tim Peck (the 2024 nominee), Jim Graham, and Keil Roark. His campaign, per the Capital Chronicle, runs on Medicare for All, higher wages, stronger collective bargaining, a proposal to make the first $20,000 in wages tax-free and to expand overtime-pay eligibility, and protecting Social Security. FEC: raised $105,510. Pros: A working engineer's biography, including civilian work for the Navy, and a primary win over the party's previous nominee. Cons: His stated program includes Medicare for All — a government-run health program printed here as his campaign's own platform, sourced to the Capital Chronicle, and priced as a policy position opposed to the free-market values this coverage stands for. It is a plurality nomination (37.9%), and no break with his party on our values is documented — his program runs with his party's program, not against it. The flaw, plainly: His flaw is his program, stated by his own campaign: Medicare for All and expanded collective bargaining are the other side's economics, offered without any Manchin-test exception. We print the platform as sourced and price it as policy, in its own species — not as personal conduct. ## OUR CALL LiberalMind endorses Erin Houchin. Houchin is the in-tent incumbent seeking a third term, with a platform on the sourced record that matches our values and no proven flaw located in this file. Meyer documents no exception — his campaign's own platform is his party's program, including Medicare for All, which we oppose on free-market grounds and price as policy, plainly. We endorse Houchin, and we carry this file's open roster flag with the article: independent Floyd Taylor's ballot qualification rests only on the compilation's results table and must be confirmed from the Election Division's list.
