Election Series · U.S. House · Ohio's 2nd District

A First-Term Republican in River Country: Ohio's 2nd District, Claim by Claim Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and voting is underway in Ohio. This is the whole race — the records, the claims, and what the sources actually show. Read the research, and decide which flaw you can live with. ## The setup The district runs from the eastern Cincinnati suburbs, including Amelia, east along the Ohio River to Athens and Marietta. Cook Political Report rates it Solid R for the new district (Nov. 2, 2025); Inside Elections says Solid R, Sabato Safe R, and Decision Desk HQ Safe R. Ohio redrew its congressional map on October 31, 2025, for 2026, so every 2024 percentage in this race was cast on the old lines and describes the incumbent's last result, not the new district's electorate — the leans below rest on Cook Political Report's ratings for the new districts, and we say so rather than present the old numbers as the new baseline. All rosters here rest on compilation sourcing, not a direct read of the Ohio Secretary of State's certified list, which is still owed before print. The incumbent is Republican David Taylor, in the House since 2025 and running for re-election — there are no open seats in this set. Taylor won the seat in 2024 with 73.5% on the old lines. On the ballot, per the compilation's general-election results table, are Taylor and Democrat Jennifer Mazzuckelli. Kenneth Jacob Dietz (Libertarian) appears only as filed paperwork and does not appear in that results table — he is flagged here as filed only, not printed as a confirmed ballot nominee. ## David Taylor (Republican) The record: First-term incumbent. He won the May 5, 2026 Republican primary with 75.0% (51,885 votes) over Bob Carr. He is Trump-endorsed and, post-primary, U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorsed. FEC (June 30, 2026): raised $1,095,247. No committee or vote record at compilation strength was located in the source beyond his 2024 margin and primary result, and we do not expand it from memory. Pros: An in-tent Republican incumbent in a Solid R district, with a decisive primary win, the president's endorsement, and a seven-figure fundraising total. Cons: A thin record at compilation strength — one term, with no sourced vote-by-vote file in this research. Voters weighing a record, not a label, will find little of it here. The flaw, plainly: His flaw is thinness of record, priced as what it is: a brief-service incumbent is unproven on this file, not demerited for it. No proven in-service flaw was located. ## Jennifer Mazzuckelli (Democratic) The record: Homemaker; a candidate for Clermont County commissioner in 2024. She won the Democratic primary with 53.3% (15,381 votes) over educator Todd Wilson. Ohio AFL-CIO endorsed. FEC (June 30, 2026): raised $1,065 — a nominal campaign on this file. Pros: A contested-primary winner with a labor endorsement. Cons: A $1,065 campaign in a Solid R district is not a competitive challenge, and no record of a break with her party on our values — the Manchin test — was located. A Democrat's organizing vote is lighter in the House than in the Senate, but it still counts. The flaw, plainly: Her flaw is the caucus itself: a party-line Democratic vote, offered with a nominal campaign and no documented exception to her party's program. ## OUR CALL LiberalMind endorses David Taylor. Taylor is the in-tent incumbent in a Solid R district, and nothing in this file prices a proven flaw against him. Mazzuckelli offers no Manchin-test break — no proven break with her party on the Constitution, the free market, or our other values in service — so there is no exception to make. We endorse Taylor, and we print the limit of this file with the endorsement: his House record at compilation strength is a margin, a primary, and a fundraising total, and it should be audited vote by vote as this coverage is updated.
