LiberalMind endorses William Timmons
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and voting is already underway in South Carolina. This is the whole race on the record we could verify — including one spelling the sources cannot agree on.
The setup
South Carolina's 4th District — most of Greenville and Spartanburg Counties (SCIWAY) — is held by Rep. William Timmons (R), in the U.S. House since January 2019. The race is Solid R at compilation strength (no Cook rating or 2024 margin was retrieved in this pass; the lean is labeled accordingly). SCIWAY and the Greenville News agree on the three-name ballot: Timmons; Courtney McClain (D); and a Libertarian whose surname the sources spell two ways — "Ethridge" (SCIWAY; Wikipedia) vs. "Etheridge" (Greenville News). We print both and adopt neither; the State Election Commission list governs final print.
William Timmons (Republican)
Timmons came to Congress after two years in the South Carolina Senate; he was elected to the House in 2018 (Washington Times history summary, via the research file). Trump endorsed him for 2026 (NationPress, Oct. 22, 2026).
Pros: A proven four-term incumbent with state-legislative service before it and the president's endorsement renewed.
Cons: No flaw of service is documented against him in this pass at proven strength.
The flaw, plainly: None located. The finding stands as written.
Courtney McClain (Democratic)
McClain did not respond to the Greenville News' questionnaire; her profile rests on campaign materials only, and our research located no prior-office record for her in this pass.
Pros: She is a contested nominee on Solid R ground.
Cons: A non-response to the local paper's questionnaire is itself a datum: the candidacy's public content is campaign copy, and in it there is no documented break with her party toward our values for the exception to read.
The flaw, plainly: McClain's flaw is the campaign-materials file: a candidacy that declines inspection cannot complain when inspection finds nothing to price as an exception.
The Libertarian nominee (Ethridge/Etheridge — see the spelling conflict above) has no record located beyond the candidacy.
