Our verdict

LiberalMind endorses Chris D

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026; Washington votes by mail, and ballots are in voters' hands. This is the whole race — the records, the claims against each candidate, and what the sources actually show. Read the research, and decide which flaw you can live with.

The setup

Washington's 10th District — the South Sound, Tacoma and Olympia and Joint Base Lewis-McChord — is held by Rep. Marilyn Strickland (D), first elected in 2020. Cook's PVI is D+9 and the seat rates Solid D; the district voted Harris 57.0% / Trump 39.1% in 2024. Strickland fended off two Democratic challengers from her left in the August 4 primary, taking 47.26%; the Republican nominee, Chris D. Chung, advanced with 31.40%.

Marilyn Strickland (Democratic)

The record: Strickland has served since 2021; before Congress she was mayor of Tacoma and a Tacoma city councilmember and Chamber of Commerce president (background at compilation strength from general delegation reporting). Her district includes JBLM, and she has emphasized pay raises for junior enlisted service members. In the record located, there is no documented break with her party toward our values.

Pros: A proven electoral record in the district's largest city before Congress, and an incumbent's attention to the military families her district runs on.

Cons: Her record is her party's program; two challengers from her left do not make her a moderate under our test, which reads breaks in service, and none is documented.

The flaw, plainly: Strickland's flaw is the caucus: a reliable incumbent whose file locates no separation from her party's program for the exception to attach to.

Chris D. Chung (Republican)

The record: Chung ran in 2024 for Washington state Insurance Commissioner — a statewide candidacy is the substance of his located record. No FEC campaign-finance records for 2026 were located in the primary-period tally, and no occupation or prior elected office was located in this pass beyond the 2024 run. The record is thin, and we do not pad it.

Pros: The conservative direction, and a prior statewide run — he has put his name before Washington voters before and done it again.

Cons: A losing statewide race is the whole file: no office held, no occupation sourced, no 2026 fundraising the sources could find.

The flaw, plainly: Chung is unproven — a repeat candidate whose record is the fact of his candidacies.

OUR CALL

LiberalMind endorses Chris D. Chung — as unproven, and on watch.

Strickland's file holds no documented break toward our values, so the exception is not earned, and the aligned nominee takes the call with his thin record stated plainly.
